Avoid Sneezing and Wheezing! We can help with your Indoor Air Quality

A silent enemy, poor IAQ (indoor air quality) can dangerously impact the health of you and your family, from the off-gassing of toxic VOCs to annoying allergens. Luckily, whether you live in an old or new apartment or single family home, there are an array of ways to easily and affordably protect and improve the air in your home.

What Causes Poor IAQ?
A tight building envelope, inadequate ventilation, poor indoor environmental conditions, and more can contribute to poor indoor air quality.

Who’s Most At-Risk?
Seniors, children, and those with disabilities and pre-existing health conditions are most at-risk. Parents and young children who spend most of their time at home are also at increased risk, suffering problems from irritation of the nose, eyes, and throat, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue, increased incidence of allergy and asthma, and with prolonged or repeated exposure, respiratory diseases, heart disease and even cancer.

How Can You Protect IAQ in Your Home?
  • Start with your air filters.
A must for asthma and allergy sufferers, upgrading your air filter (which needs to be changed regularly) can help reduce harmful airborne particles in your home like viruses, bacteria, mold, pollen, dander, and even toxins from cleaning chemicals. Be sure to contact your friendly HVAC contractor before making the switch, however, as some HEPA filters may strain your system.
  • Fight back with UV lights.
Germicidal or UV lights are extremely effective at eliminating bacteria, mold, and other microorganisms, and are a snap to incorporate into your HVAC equipment.
  • Amp-up purification with an air purifier.
Standalone air purifiers as well as whole house systems that work in conjunction you’re your heating and air conditioning equipment can help remove additional harmful contaminants from the air.
  • Keep humidity levels in check.
Indoor humidity levels are best between 30 and 50 percent, as levels can affect the concentration of some pollutants. Dust mites and mold love moisture. However your body can react negatively to overly-dry conditions, suffering dry eyes, nose, and throat, experiencing skin irritations, and suffering from an increased susceptibility to upper respiratory infections and colds.
  • Keep an eye on carbon monoxide.
Colorless, odorless carbon monoxide from improperly ventilated or poorly maintained combustion appliances or fireplaces can quickly buildup in your home, causing headaches, dizziness, weakness, nausea and vomiting, chest pain, confusion, loss of coordination, and ultimately, unconsciousness and death. Regular annual maintenance and carbon monoxide tests and detectors are essential for safety.
  • Stop VOCs at the source.
Replace off-gassing pressed wood furniture, carpet, cleaning chemicals, air fresheners and synthetic candles with more natural alternatives: Solid wood furniture, natural hard floor surfaces, inexpensive and homemade chemical-free cleaning alternatives, essential oils, and beeswax candles…. Changing your buying habits to create a healthier, happier home.
Ensure clean, healthy air in your home all year round. Find the perfect air purification solution with the help of the EPA certified services of H&H Heating & Air Conditioning today.

Looking for Authorized Service and Parts for your Bryant Heaters? We can help!

Bryant air conditioners and heating systems offer some of the most reliable and efficient central air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers and furnaces in the biz. Like all hard working appliances, however, it is natural for parts to eventually wear, requiring repair and replacement. When that time comes, you need fast, access to affordable service and OEM parts to get your system back up and running as quickly as possible.

Need Parts or Service?
We are a Bryant dealer and installer, providing lasting, quality repairs and carrying parts to work specifically with your Bryant equipment, ensuring a perfect fit, protecting your valuable warranty, and restoring your equipment to its original condition and performance.

Emergency?
Unfortunately, problems with your HVAC system don’t always occur between normal 9 to 5 business hours. That’s why we offer emergency repairs to Bryant heating systems and air conditioners 24 hours a day, 7 days, providing fast, affordable repair for your heating or air conditioning systems free of after-hours or overtime rates. Worried about the cost? We offer no-obligation quotes on air conditioning and heating repair, as well as valuable discounts, coupons, financing, and maintenance agreements to help make necessary repairs and maintenance more affordable for your family.

Not Sure a Quick-Fix will Cut it?
When your system is old and repair costs are more than one-half to one-third of the cost of a new system, it may make more financial sense to consider a new Bryant air conditioning installation or heating system installation. As an installer of Bryant systems, we can replace your ailing and inefficient system with new Energy Star air conditioners and heaters, or upgrade your home to the newer, more efficient technology of Energy Star certified ductless cooling systems. Select systems, such as Bryant Evolution central air systems, offer quiet, powerful, 19+ SEER efficiency ratings, offering substantial savings both monthly and annually on energy costs. Important to energy and monetary savings over time, it is important to consider such SEER and AFUE ratings when selecting a new system, rather than up-front pricing, to ensure the lowest possible energy use, highest monthly savings, and fastest return on investment. Older furnaces and boilers hold efficiencies in the range of 56-70%, a far cry from today’s 98.5% efficient options, cutting fuel bills and pollution in half with an upgrade. Air source heat pumps offer similar advantages, saving up to 20% on heating and cooling costs – and about 50% compared to electric resistance heating such as furnaces and baseboard heaters. Upgrading to a more efficient system may also qualify you for local utility rebates and state and federal tax credits.

H&H Heating & Air Conditioning is a dealer and installer of Bryant HVAC systems, as well as a distributor of Bryant air conditioner parts, Bryant heater parts, and Bryant air conditioner covers. Ensure service and a system you can trust and rely on. Contact us to learn more about service pricing, system options, and available deals and incentives today.

Wine Cellar Cooling and Humidification Systems – The Essentials for your Wine Cellar

Love your wine collection, but that portable wine cooling unit not getting the job done anymore? If you are up to your ears in wine bottles (not the empty kind), it’s time to step things up a notch with wine cellar refrigeration systems.

What Does a Cellar Do that Your Home Cooling System and Countertop Unit Can’t?
Noisy, and notoriously unreliable countertop refrigerators are extremely sensitive to the temperature of the surrounding environment, and simply cannot cool properly in an overly warm room. Their small size oftentimes both limits suitable storage, and provides only serving-temperature function – not long-term storage. This single-zone style cooling typically leaves either your reds or your whites in the wrong temperature zone. Adding insult to injury, in the effort to look pretty, glass doors on some units may result in the unwanted exposure of your wine collection to UV light, which can prematurely age light sensitive wine. Old systems with excessive vibration, as well as poor location of countertop coolers, can also lead to wines being repeatedly jostled, shaking up sediment and leading to wine that is unpleasantly gritty.

Cut the Clutter – and Keep Wine Tastier
Wine cellar refrigeration systems help keep your precious collection at the perfect temperature, no matter the weather or conditions in your home, providing the right atmosphere to ensure delicious wine and ensure proper storage. Keeping your cellar temperature between 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit, the ideal temperature for wine storage, or a cooler 45 degrees for those looking for long-term storage that prevents aging, wine cellar cooling systems offer precise wine storage control. However more than simple wine cellar temperature control is crucial to wine condition – humidity is also key.

Don’t Sweat It: Humidification
Because air in your home can get dry, especially in the winter, as part of your wine cellar cooling unit installation you should include a wine cellar humidifier. Wine cellar cooling in dry climates can be tricky, and humidification ensures success, keeping your collection in the ideal 60-70% relative humidity range to protect corks from drying and cracking, resulting in wine evaporation through the cork, and eventually spoilage. This temperature/humidity control combination gives you total control over your wine storage environment.

Air Things Out with an Installer You can Trust
You have a lot riding on your soon-to-be cellar. When selecting a fabricator for your wine cellar refrigeration system, ensure lasting, successful results with a licensed, insured, and experienced professional. Select a company that backs their work with honest, straight-forward pricing and an extensive warranty, ensuring they will be available 24/7 to address your unit in the event of an emergency to ensure the condition of your collection day and night.

For the ultimate in wine cellar temperature control, professionally crafted to protect your prize pinot, trust in H&H Heating & Air Conditioning. Don’t leave your investment – or your taste buds – at risk, ensure the perfect condition of your wine collection year-round. Contact us today.

Mitsubishi Ductless Heating and Cooling Systems – an Overview

Ductless air conditioning units are rising in popularity and sales nationwide. In-use in Japan for over 50 years, and popular in Asia and Europe, this relative newcomer to the American market has been distributed across the U.S. by one of the top manufacturers of cooling and heating systems in the world, Mitsubishi Electric, for more than 30 years, gaining a snowballing portion of market share as homeowners have come to realize the amazing benefits of ductless systems.

How Does a Ductless System Work?
Ductless systems, such as Mitsubishi units, distributed by the company’s Georgia-based U.S. division, work similarly to heat-pump-style Mitsubishi central air systems, hence their alter alias: Mini-split system. The noisier part (compressor) is located outside of your home, however rather than bulky ductwork, interior, wall-mounted units are paired with the outdoor compressor unit, and distribute air via fan to each area into which they are installed. A few small 3-inch holes are all that is needed to accommodate the refrigerant lines necessary for the delivery of cooled or heated air to your home. One outdoor unit can serve up to 8 indoor room units, with more added as needed.

Why Go Ductless?
Simply put, ductless systems are the wave of the future, offering a host of advantages…
  • Comfort
Instead of heating or cooling rooms you don’t use, Mitsubishi AC units and ductless heating systems allow you to increase comfort and save money by micro-managing the parts of your home that are in-use to each family member’s preference (also called “zoned” AC/heat).
  • Efficiency
Extremely high SEER, with ratings pressing 30 versus the typical central AC system’s standard 13 SEER rating, zoned monitoring allows air handlers in each room to measure return air, adjusting automatically, unlike thermostat operation which measures conditions in a different room. Heat loss and leaks of traditional ducted systems (some as high as 25%) are also completely eliminated. Offering superior efficiency and savings on multiple levels, Mitsubishi heating units are also a great way to stay comfortable in seasonal transition days (when it’s too early to turn on the furnace) providing efficient comfort even in extremely cold climates, as low as -13° F.
  • Air quality
Advanced, multi-stage filtration captures and removes allergy and asthma-inducing contaminants, as well as those that spread illness and impact air quality.
  • Quieter operation
Indoor units are quieter than a whisper, and outdoor units as quiet as a refrigerator!
  • Ease-of-use
Operate your Mitsubishi ductless air conditioner by smart device-driven app from anywhere, programming to suit your schedule, or via remote control in your home, making every room the perfect temperature.
Who Could Benefit from Mitsubishi Ductless Heating and Cooling Systems?
  • Homeowners replacing an old system, regardless of the type.
  • Families who are tired of battling with hot/cold spots or fighting over the thermostat.
  • Those renovating an older home, and short on space.
  • New home builders, from starter homes to the luxury market.
Provide personalized comfort, conserving energy, your paycheck, and the environment with the latest in high-efficiency heating and cooling technology. Contact H&H Heating & Air Conditioning to learn more about ductless systems today.

Underfloor Heating vs Forced Air – What should you get?

Your largest home energy expense, accounting for 45% of monthly energy bills according to the U.S. Department of Energy, home heating is often a source of budgetary and comfort frustrations for homeowners. Because of these concerns, it can make choosing a new home heating source an especially nail-biting experience, especially with the broad array of systems and technology on the market today. Among common choices for a heat source are forced air and radiant heat systems, two quite different but effective heat delivery methods. Which one is best for your home?

Uncovering the Advantages & Disadvantages of Forced Air & Underfloor Heating

  • Forced Air
Forced air systems, as their name implies, force warmed air through ductwork in the home with the help of blower components. These include gas and electric furnaces, as well as heat pump systems. Though forced air systems can warm rooms quickly, rooms cool equally as fast. This transference of heat through the air isn’t as efficient as other options, leaks and holes in ductwork, as well the cold temperatures where ductwork tends to be located (attics, basements) can lead to significant heat loss with forced air systems. Because heat also rises, lower levels and floors can be left cold. Air movement from vents can also create hot/cold zones, stir up dust and allergens, and have the paradoxical effect of cooling you even though the air blown on your body is warm. Retrofitting older homes for necessary ductwork and mechanical components can also be challenging.
  • Underfloor Heating
In radiant floor or underfloor heating systems, heat produced by water, electricity or air is distributed through the home via direct contact with surfaces from under-floor tubing/components. Transferring thermal energy directly to surfaces, heat is later transferred to you and other objects in your home via infrared radiation. Allergy-friendly and consistent, these systems better eliminate heat loss due to rising heat, proving more efficient than forced air systems in studies. They also provide more quiet, even heat distribution with far less unsightly equipment – however they are not without their drawbacks. Though underfloor heating systems maintain a more constant temperature than their breezy cousins, sub-floor components can be difficult to access should maintenance needs arise. And the flipside of the continuous level of warmth these systems provide: It takes a longer time to reach comfortable temperatures. It is also difficult – but not impossible – to use these systems for cooling (which would require a chiller or geothermal heat pump). Installation cost is also higher than forced air systems, with retrofits in older homes resulting in additional expense and complication, however radiant systems can save considerable money over the long run in higher efficiency.
Is there a Customer Favorite?

Although forced air systems are more common, advancements in underfloor heating are making it an increasingly popular option, with many homeowners choosing to incorporating both forced air and underfloor heating in the home, most typically incorporating (standalone) radiant systems in kitchens and baths, and ever more frequently throughout the home.

What’s the most advantageous heat source for your home and budget? Uncover your options. Contact H&H Heating & Air Conditioning today.
